"Idea: Choose Your Body Language, Choose Your Emotions"

I have an idea that I'd like to share with you.

The Theory of Body Language

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) suggests that thoughts create feelings, and feelings create our behaviours. This is a triangle. Our behaviours can change our feelings and thoughts.

If we walk with our chins up and shoulders back, we feel significantly more powerful and confident.

My Experience

I wanted to learn about people skills, so I watched some videos on Youtube. I was led to a video about body language.

I learned through this video that most people who are not trained as actors are not very good at acting. This is because we are not consciously aware of how we react to certain emotions.

The facial expressions are particularly subtle. When we open our eyes and mouths wide, and raise our eyebrows in an upside down U shape, it means that we are "surprised". When we do the same thing but with our eyebrows low (straight), it means that we are "angry".

The Idea That I Would Like To Share With You:

This leads to me thinking that if we know how we behave (body language, facial expressions, tone/pitch) in certain emotions, we would be able to choose our behaviour and in turn choose our own emotions.

I want to learn more about body language.
