"7 Fair Fighting Rules"
1. Keep It Relevant
Stay to the point. Do not go off into a blame game by bringing up things from the past. Deal with what is on hand.
2. Keep It Real
Get real about what is bothering you. Find what it is that is bothering you and not a symptom of the problem.
3. Avoid Character Put Downs
Stay focused on the issue. Do not attack the other person personally. You love them, but you do not like what they did.
4. Remain Task-Oriented
Have a goal in mind for the argument before you get into it.
5. Allow For The Other Person To Retreat With Dignity
How the argument ends is very important. When the other person apologizes or jokes, give them a face-saving way out of the disagreement.
6. Be Proportional In Your Intensity
Trust me, not everything that sets you off is a catastrophy. Please be respectful of the person you are arguing with.
7. There's a Time Limit
Arguments should remain arguments. Don't let it stretch out through the whole day, week, or month.
