"7 Ways To Motivate Yourself For Your Commitment"
We set goals. We plan on a ritual to do soemthing everyday to reach that goal. But goals are nothing without action. In order to really get to a place that we dream of, we must learn how to constantly motivate ourselves. Those that succeed aren't people that are just motivated--they are people that are consistently motivated.
Here are some ways that I motivate myself towards my dreams.
1. Surround myself with people that I want to be like: Mentors
All the greatest people we know have had great mentors in their journey. We cannot make it alone. We need guidance that will lead to dreams and actions. Personally, it had made a lot of difference in my progress when I started surrounding myself with people that motivated and challenged me. Also working in the same way is watching and observing your role models--in my case, I watch the best of singers performing on Youtube to keep myself stretching to become more like them.
2. Reward myself when I did something I had planned to do
When parenting your children and disciplining them, nothing works magic like reward does. Same thing works for us. Rewarding yourself with small unrelated pleasures when you did what you planned on doing--will make all the great difference. In my case, I make sure that I get a reward of having an avocado after my daily 4 hours of singing practice.
3. A negative consequence when I did NOT do what I planned to do
This is a new skill that I have learned from a TIME magazine article. This works in a similar way with the reward method. If you have a negative consequence that will strike you when you don't do what you've planned--then it will motivate you so that you can avoid the negative consequence. An example that the article used was giving your roommate or family member $100 and telling them that you will get it back at the end of the day only if you complete your daily commitment. If you don't they will get to keep your $100.
4. Motivational videos/audios
You are what you eat: You are what you feed yourself. Motivational videos and audios can be found free of charge online. Some of my own favourites include TD Jakes sermons, motivational audios with music from Youtube, and even friends who encourages me to stretch and keep on keepin on. It is important that you do this every single day in the morning so that you will make the best out of the time you have today. When it comes to goals, EVERY SINGLE DAY counts.
5. Tracking my progress
There is nothing more motivating than seeing your improvement that is the result of your hard work. Keeping a journal of some kind helps track your progress.
6. Keeping negatives out of my mind
There are scientific researches that prove that people perform at their best when they are happy. Happiness has nothing to do with what is going on outside. It is your mindset. Focus on the positive things and learn to eliminate negative thoughts.
7. Keeping distractions away and focusing on my priorities
You can only be productive if you are focusing on that ONE thing. No one can do much when they are doing too many things at once. Set your priorities. Write down the distractions. Eliminate the distractions if they are not going to help you achieve your dream.
